Q for Huma Qureshi in the Actors Series.
In this list, we are seeing the actors who are not the stars in the movie they featured but they own the scenes in which they feature. Not only that, without them the scene might not be the same. In this list, I wish to talk about Huma Qureshi.
Huma Qureshi made her debut in Gangs of Wasseypur, a crime saga directed by Anurag Kashyap. Her role has a limited screen time in the first part of the two-part saga and within the short screentime, she makes a mark. As a Bollywood influenced Mohsina, she plays the role to the T. She portrays the role of a strong woman who’s not frightened by the thugs and stands for her rights perfectly. The scene where Nawazuddin Siddiqui tries to hold her hand stands out and give you a glimpse of how great an actor she is. You can watch the movie in here.
When the whole new set of female actors were eyeing on the protagonist roles, she did supporting roles and she’s on her way to becoming a superstar of supporting roles. This might look a bit exaggerated but I wish to talk about one role which I loved to the core and why I chose a particular role. The role I am talking about is from the movie Badlapur. The movie written and directed by Sriram Raghavan of Ek Haseena Thi and Johnny Gaddar says the story of Raghu, whose wife and kid are killed in a robbery. Raghu plans to avenge the death of his wife and son. How he does it forms the rest of the story. Two robbers were involved played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vinay Pathak. Huma plays the role of a prostitute and lover of Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Her role as Jhimli has to showcase a spectrum of emotions and she manages to pull off the role convincingly. When actors like Nawaz, Vinay Pathak are on screen its impossible to steal the scene from them, but Huma does it like a cakewalk. The character is short yet powerful. She’s one of the few actors who have that strong persona and screen presence which is hard to ignore. Watch the movie on youtube if you haven’t already.
Her debut movie should’ve been Ajith Kumar starrer Billa 2, but due to delayed shoot, she has to forego the opportunity to honour other commitments.
She will be making her Tamil debut in Pa. Ranjith’s Kaala which has Rajnikanth in the lead.
